The Medical Education Commission (MEC) of Nepal is a central governing body responsible for managing and regulating medical and health education in the country. MEC was created with the vision of enhancing the quality, accessibility, and efficiency of medical education, ensuring it meets global standards while catering to the healthcare needs of Nepal and the region. It was established by the provision of the National Medical Education Act 2075, in the context of the essence and spirit of the reports of the commission.  Medical Education Commission has been established to:

  • increase the investment of the state in the field of medical education,
  • develop medical education in line with the national needs of Nepal,
  • regulate medical education in integrated and efficient way,
  • organize the work related to the establishment and operation of medical institutions,
  • maintain quality, professionalism, institutional accountability, geographical balance and social justice in medical education,
  • ensure equal access of all students including the deprived.

The Act defines medical education as education of all disciplines and levels related to the health profession (Health Professional Education).

Functions of MEC

  • Conducting centralized entrance examinations for various medical programs, including MBBS, BDS, MD/MS, Health Professional Courses etc.

MEC Entrance Examination

  • The MEC conducts entrance exams for MBBS and other medical programs annually.
  • The syllabus covers core subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • Students from Nepal and international applicants are eligible to appear for the exam.
  • Indian Students who have valid current year NEET score are excepted to write MECEE- BL examination and take admission directly to any of the private medical college based on their NEET score .

Note: It is compulsory for students to fill the application form and deposit the Prescribed application form charge to appear the CEE (Common Entrance Examination) conducted by MEC or those who are looking for admission based on NEET score. The Online application for Common Entrance Examination ( CEE ) or MECEE- BL will be published once in a year and it is compulsory for all the students to fill this online form in due time .Foreign National  Students who fail to fill this application form will be not further eligible to take admission in any of the Private Medical College in Nepal .
